According to Australian media reports there could be developments in the next couple of months with broadcasters having made inquiries to the IOC, although not on a formal basis.
Some commentators predict the rights could be worth up to A$100 million. Two years ago, the IOC suspended talks in Australia as it was reported to have been disappointed by the level of the offers.
Australia is one of the last countries to negotiate for the 2010 and 2012 rights. The Seven network will cover the 2008 Beijing Games.
