USOC BOUNCES BACK WITH AD CAMPAIGN

The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has unveiled an advertising campaign for the 2008 Summer Olympics just 24 hours after General Motors announced it is to quit its USOC sponsorship after the Beijing Games.

The campaign is called ‘Amazing Awaits’ and will include TV spots, print advertising in publications such as USA Today, Sports Illustrated, SportsBusinessJournal and Brandweek, and a website, www.amazingawaits.org.

Quoted in Brandweek, USOC CEO Jim Scherr said the campaign will "help communicate the unique values of the Olympic brand ahead of the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Separately, USOC sponsor Bank of America launched its 2008 Olympic Games programming by introducing its roster of 12 U.S. Olympic Team hopefuls.

The athletes will be part of the bank's year-long U.S. Olympic marketing campaign.

"Bank of America knows how to maximize the value of their U.S. Olympic Team sponsorship for its customers and associates, while also bringing athletes closer to their dreams and the American public closer to the athletes that represent our nation in Olympic competition," said Scherr.

Bank of America will provide financial and marketing support to the athletes, who have collectively won eight Olympic medals across a variety of disciplines.

The list includes Aaron Peirsol, three-time backstroke gold medal winner at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
