UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN IN $60M KIT DEAL

The University of Michigan has signed an eight-year footwear and apparel deal with adidas for its 25 sports teams - earning the university’s athletic department $7.5 million a year.

The contract nearly doubles the amount Michigan athletics brought in a year from a seven-year, $30M sponsorship deal with Nike that ends with the 2007-2008 season.

Jason Winters, the athletic department's chief financial officer, said the extra funds will go towards renovating athletic facilities like Chrysler Arena.

Other US universities with adidas kit deals include the University of Notre Dame, University of California, University of Tennessee, University of Indiana, University of Nebraska and the University of Wisconsin.
