JORDAN START NATIONAL SOFTBALL FEDERATION

The International Softball Federation (IFS) approved Jordan’s application to start a national softball federation, boosting the “Back Softball” campaign to reinstate the sport in the 2016 Olympics.

The Jordan Olympic committee hopes to make sport more inclusive in the Middle East and plan to introduce more women and youths to team sports through softball.

The Back Softball “blueprint” was launched in Europe last month and one of its goals is to provide greater sporting chance for women in the Middle East. Jordan’s successful application, along with Sierra Leones provision membership, takes the IFS’s membership to 130 countries.

“Softball is a simple, affordable team sport that can be incorporated into existing facilities. It is always a hit with women and young people, and for many in Jordan this will be their introduction to team sport” said ISF president, Don Porter. “I am sure that other countries in the Middle East will be watching with interest,” he added.

The ISF will provide start up equipment and coaches to as well as an operational team later in the year to assist setting up a league and training coaches and officials.
