RUSSIA 100 PER CENT FOCUSED ON THE OLYMPIC GAMES IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

Russian officials announced yesterday that the Sochi Olympic Organising Committee (SOOG) will be established as early as September, 2007. The same day, the Sochi 2014 Bid Committee announced its next steps for the transition period.

“We have identified our objective as passing the Olympic law by September and setting up the Organising Committee the same month”, said Herman Gref, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade. The very first objectives of the SOOC will be marketing, finance and planning.

Mr Gref went on to outline the importance of tight financial control for the 2014 Olympic Games and ensuring all tenders are transparent. ”Effective budget expenditure is our first priority at this stage. We will create an unprecedented scheme of control”, said Mr Gref.

The Sochi 2014 team also held a press conference yesterday in Moscow, focusing on the efficient management of the transition period between the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee and the creation of the SOOC in September. “A detailed plan of works for the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games will be ready by August 6 for the transition period. In the meantime Sochi is getting ready to host the very first IOC Coordination Committee visit on August 25 -27”, said Dmitry Chernyshenko, CEO of the Sochi 2014 Bid Committee.

“In true partnership with the IOC we are 100 per cent focused on the Olympic Games Implementation plan”, Chernyshenko added. “This plan will be examined thoroughly by the IOC and it is our promise to provide a 21st century plan, never before seen for an Olympic and Paralympic Games”.
