Rovers current deal with Bet24 finishes at the end of this season and officials in the club’s commercial department are keen to secure an appropriate sponsor. The Bonham Group Europe’s brief is also to find second tier sponsors, which includes hospitality and signage around the ground.
Shirt sponsorship provides vital revenue for football clubs at all levels but Rovers insist it has to be an appropriate brand. Simon Williams, Head of Commercial and Marketing at Blackburn said: “We have an excellent relationship with Bet24 but once our agreement finishes this season we will be looking for a new shirt sponsor and that search starts now.
“The Bonham Group’s record is second to none in North America where it has secured more than £1 billion in sponsorship contracts and we feel its structured approach is the best way to progress. We have given them a brief to find a brand that is the ideal fit for the club. We are looking for a longer-term relationship that gives excellent value in terms of exposure and activation.
“The revenue from first tier sponsors is an important source of club income and this innovative approach will expose our club to national and international brands that suit our aspirations.”
Paul Samuels, the former Head of Sponsorship for O2 UK, is the CEO of the European operations for the Bonham Group, and his team is currently carrying out a global search for a new brand to be the shirt sponsor.
Samuels said: “Blackburn are aware of our international reputation and the work we have done in North America. We are looking locally, nationally and internationally because there are so many brands that want to be associated with the Premiership.
“We are currently carrying out an evaluation of the club to establish its true value in the marketplace and this will form the basis of negotiations with any future clients.”
