2014 WINTER GAMES HOST CITY DAY OF RECKONING

The Host City of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be elected at the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala City later today with IOC members choosing between the cities of Sochi (Russian Federation), Salzburg (Austria) and PyeongChang (Republic of Korea).

The members will make their decision based on the Candidature Files produced by each city, the IOC Evaluation Commission’s report and the presentations made later today by the cities. The announcement of the Host City will be made during a 30-minute live TV broadcast which will begin at 5 p.m. local time.

Alexander Zhukov, Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Government Committee for Sochi 2014, said: “Sochi 2014 comes with the complete support of President Putin and his government, who are totally united behind his vision. In Russia, this high level of support means that we always deliver on our promises. We never let our partners and friends down. Promises are always more powerful if they are made by people with passion, self belief and determination. The IOC will be left in no doubt that Russia will deliver a once-in-a-lifetime Games on time and on budget.”
