According to The Age newspaper, the state government has earmarked the money to help build a new function facility at AAMI Stadium and improve amenities.
Stadium owners, the SANFL, plan a Aus$70 million upgrade over the next seven years of the football ground which is also used for concerts, The Age said.
South Australia Sport Minister Michael Wright said the federal government should match the state's funding.
The South Australia state government has committed Aus$9 million to redeveloping AAMI Stadium, Adelaide's Australian Football League ground.
