NASCAR FILES AT&T COUNTER CLAIM

US open-wheel motor racing series, NASCAR, has filed a $100 million counter claim against AT&T in a landmark case concerning NASCAR’s right to offer its series title sponsor, Nextel, category exclusivity.

NASCAR is accusing AT&T of interfering with its exclusive sponsorship agreement with Nextel and wants all telecommunication firms, apart from Nextel, kicked out of the sport.
The conflict arose when AT & T bought out the cell phone company Cingular and its sponsorship agreement with Richard Childress Racing and top driver Jeff Burton.
NASCAR refused to allow AT&T to put its logos on Jeff Burton's car, claiming that Nextel has exclusivity through its 10-year, $700 million investment in the sport.
AT&T sued and a court allowed Burton to race with the AT&T logos from May 19.
