The Walker Family Trust, which has controlled the club since the death of Rovers’ benefactor Sir Jack Walker in 2000, has granted the consortium a period of due diligence ahead of a possible offer.
Rothschilds, the club’s financial advisers, are assisting in talks over the reported £67 million bid.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung is expected to firm up his £50 million bid to buy newly promoted Birmingham City this week.
The billionaire has already had his representatives visit St Andrew's and inspect the club's finances.
