UK COMPANIES TO CUT F1 EMISSIONS

Two British companies have joined forces to help Formula One cut Co2 emissions ahead of new rules to lower the environmental impact of the sport in 2009.

Gearbox designer Torotrak entered into a licence agreement with manufacturing company Xtrac to develop the technology proposed for use in Formula One.
"This is a good example of what I believe FIA President Max Mosley had in mind when he announced that Formula One should embrace an energy efficient future and open up the world of motorsport to new manufacturers,“ said Peter Digby, managing director of Xtrac.
The technology developed by the companies addresses one of Formula One’s new rules for 2009, which is to use kinetic energy recovery systems to help store energy that would otherwise be wasted during deceleration.
