Ruiz-Gallardon has stated that Madrid “is ready to develop the activities that are essential to achieve its targets”. For that reason, the new bid is going to prepare “a completely different project with important technical novelties and a new conceptual development”.
The Mayor of Madrid has emphasised that Madrid 2016 will be “especially based on the sportsmen and the Spanish sport”. Other factors that will be extremely important are constructing new infrastructure and quality sports facilities, encouraging sport activities for the disabled and improving the urban balance and the sustainable development.
This presentation and approval from the Spanish Olympic Committee is the first step in the long race to host the 2016 Olympic Games. The final decision will be announced on October 2nd 2009 in Copenhagen.
