Champ Car president and CEO Steve Johnson told Crash.net that the 2007 calendar expansion, which added races at Zolder and Assen in Belgium and the Netherlands respectively, considered a new UK-based Champ Car race.
“We're always open, but we didn't have a promoter step up this year," said Johnson. "It's open for future expansion, for sure, and, if the right promoter steps forward with the right partners, sponsorship, that sort of thing, we'd love to come back. It would make perfect sense for the series."
The two Benelux races were added to the schedule, said Johnson after Bart Rietbergen approached Champ car to promote the races. “Bart came to us and said that he had two races he wanted to put on, at Zolder and Assen, and that he had the sponsorship base,” Johnson said.
Champ Car, Johnson added, is looking to partner locally-based promoters to expand its presence in Europe.
America’s open-wheel motorsport series Champ Car is seeking a UK promoter to add a British event to its European race profile.
