G14 SET TO EXPAND, EVEN DOUBLE MEMBERSHIP

The G14 group of European football clubs is set to add new members, possibly even doubling its 18-strong membership.

G14 general manager Thomas Kurth said, “we hope to expand to double our membership by the end of the year," speaking after the group’s board meeting in Glasgow on Thursday.

Also at the meeting Olympique Lyonnnais chairman Jean-Michel Aulas was elected former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein's successor as president of the G14. The presidency is a two-year term.

The G14 was formed in 2000 to give its members a greater voice in the running of the game, originally 14-strong it admitted four further clubs in 2002. About 20 clubs have expressed an interest the G14 since its formation seven years ago.
