EARNHARDT DROPS NASCAR TEAM TO BECOME A FREE AGENT

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is to leave Dale Earnhardt Inc and becomes a free agent from 2008 in a move that is expected to have an impact on US motor racing series Nascar’s TV ratings, merchandising sales as well as driver salaries.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., is the son of the legendary Dale Earnhardt and the most popular driver in Nascar. He will leave Dale Earnhardt Inc, the team established by his father, when his contract ends after this season.

Earnhardt Jr says he wants to “compete on a consistent basis and contend for championships now”.

Experts say that if Earnhardt Jr signs up with a team that is in contention to win races every week and is vying for the championship, there could be a significant upswing in ticket sales at the gate, TV ratings, and merchandising sales.
