FIFA CALLS FOR UNITED TOUR RETHINK

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has backed calls from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for Manchester United to reschedule its July tour of Asia to avoid clashing with the Asian Cup.

"It should be respected by clubs touring exactly in the same region where this competition is played and I will be personally appealing to the club but also to the organisers in the different countries," said Blatter.
Blatter was responding to complaints by AFC president Mohamed Bin Hamman, who had earlier said that United should “look for something more than money”.
“Asia is giving them so much money during the on-season. One month every four years and they cannot spare it to not play in Asia," he said. "We can prevent them playing in Malaysia but I don’t want them to play in Korea, Japan or China either. They are welcome in June, they are welcome in August, but not in July."
Malaysia has already pulled out of the United tour, but match-ups against Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan, 17 July; FC Seoul in Korea, 20 July; and Shenzhen in Macau, 23 July, remain on the itinerary.
The Asian Cup tournament is scheduled to be held from 7-29 July.
