US OPEN EXTENDS CBS TV RIGHTS DEAL

The US Open and US network CBS have agreed a new six-year deal reported to be worth about $145 million for the year’s final Grand Slam tennis tournament.

Under the new deal, the two parties replaced the final three years of an existing deal set to expire in 2008 and agreed a new deal to run until 2011.

The new deal also includes the rights for the US Open Series, the warm-up tournaments that lead into the US Open. Although the deal is reported to represent a cut in rights fees, it includes a revenue-share that gives the USTA a percentage of ad spend over a certain limit.
