According to reports, Ecclestone is looking at potentially switching the popular GP2 series to the winter months – with action taking place primarily in Asia.
Such a move would inevitably cut across A1GP which races outside F1’s familiar calendar and has made much of its desire to attract the Middle East and Asian markets.
The GP2 series is growing in stature as a platform for the next generation of F1 racers. Last year’s winner was Brit ace Lewis Hamilton.
Said Ecclestone: “There is a future for a series which brings in drivers who can step up to F1, that’s my business.
“I’m not sure A1GP does that.”
