RTÉ WINS 2014 WORLD CUP RIGHTS IN IRELAND

RTÉ won the rights for the 2014 World Cup in a deal agreed through its association with the European Broadcasting Union.

RTE already holds the rights for the 2010 event and is hopeful of securing the rights for Euro 2008. Negotiations will start this month with the Sportfive agency which is selling them on a country by country basis.

RTE will also begin negotiations this summer with the GAA for Gaelic Games rights. It is likely to face stiff competition from pay-broadcaster Setanta.
