And there will be no block on a Western company securing the deal – as long as it is ‘accepted’ by the Chinese people.
The claims by Zhang Hengli, deputy manager of the National Stadium Company, are made during an interview granted to the Beijing News newspaper.
He said: “We have already started talks with a number of companies.
“We have spent over $129.4m on the venue and we need to see some sort of return on that. Domestic or foreign companies are both entitled to bid to have their name on the stadium. Although we will carefully consider if the company will be accepted by the Chinese people.”
He added despite other revenue generators plugged into the complex, it was naming rights which would generate the biggest immediate income.
The NSC is tasked with operating the venue until 2038.
