Sports and children's programming company EM.TV's chief executive Werner Klatten said that his company was in talks with Swiss media group Highlight Entertainment, raising speculation of a takeover.
Highlight, which owns film company Constantin Film, could face competition from German pay-operator Premiere for EM.TV's sports unit.
The sports unit comprises the German sports channel DSF and internet portal Sport.1 as well as production company Plazamedia.
EM.TV's sports unit brought in 87 per cent of the company's revenue last year.
