PENGUINS SECURE FUTURE IN PITTSBURGH

The NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins are set to remain in the city after securing a deal with city, county and state officials for a new $290m arena.

The deal will end uncertainty over the team’s future and keep the side in Pittsburgh for the next 30 years.

The new arena, to be operated by the Penguins, will be owned by the city-county Sports & Entertainment Authority. All revenues and all costs will be met by the NHL team.

A proportion of the funding - $7.5m a year - will come from Majestic Star Casino – the company awarded the licence for running Pittsburgh slot machines.
The Penguins current lease at the Mellon Arena expires in June.
