NHLPA OFFICIALS PUT ON PAID LEAVE

Two top officials of the NHL Players’ Association have been suspended from their jobs on paid leave amid a flurry of allegations.

Executive director Ted Saskin and senior director Ken Kim are on paid leave after claims Saskin ordered the monitoring of player emails during the 2004-05 labour dispute and that he sabotaged the union by withholding information from players following talks with team owners.

A statement from the NHLPA said: “The NHLPA executive board will be retaining outside counsel in order to properly address the allegations made against Mr Saskin and Mr Kim. The NHLPA executive board will afford Mr Saskin and Mr Kim the opportunity to respond to the allegations made against them at the appropriate time.”
