The move, following a meeting of the IAAF World Athletics Tour working group means the event on June 2 will now part of the IAAF World Athletics Tour.
The inclusion of New York brings the World Athletics Tour for 2007 up to a total of 24 meetings, with the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, on June 10, also an IAAF Grand Prix, being the only other fixture in the US.
The 2007 World Athletics Tour commenced on March 2 with the Telstra Melbourne Track Classic Melbourne – IAAF Grand Prix – in Australia, and will conclude with the 5th IAAF World Athletics Final, Stuttgart, Germany, in September.
