TV AUDIENCE BOOM FOR WRC

Commercial rights holder of the FIA World Rally Championship, ISC, says the latest TV audience statistics show the global audience for the sport has rocketed by 46 percent over the past five years.

Figures produced revealed the cumulative audience has risen from 554m to 807m since 2002.

The 2006 season saw a total number of dedicated WRC broadcasts of 8,522, an increase of 27 percent since 2005; equating to a total of 4,544 hours of coverage worldwide, an increase of 155 percent since 2002.

Last year saw key agreements with pan-regional cable and satellite broadcasters, among them ESPN Star Sports in Asia, ESPN in Latin America, Al Jazeera in the Middle East, Supersport in Africa Eurosport in Europe.
