The embassy issued a warning yesterday speaking of an ‘unspecified terrorist attack’ from ‘alleged extremist elements’.
The IAAF event, which is due to take place in Mombasa on March 24, is set to attract hundreds of athletes from more than 60 countries.
It is already on high alert after Muslim leaders threatened to disrupt the event in a row over the release of Kenyan Muslim prisoners – although all protests were to be non-violent.
Said Isaac Kalua, head of the organising committee: “We have able security personnel who will do everything to guarantee the safety of participants.”
