A long-running row between the UCI, the sport's international governing body and organiser of the Pro Tour, and ASO, which organises the Tour de France as well as several ProTour events, continues to overshadow cycling.
The dispute dates back to January when the ASO refused to invite the full complement of ProTour teams to the Paris Nice race. In response, the UCI refused to sanction the event and banned all ProTour teams from taking part, telling them that it no longer recognised the race and ordering them not to enter.
And the future of next month’s event, due to have been the opening round of the ProTour, hangs in the balance with no resolution having been found. UCI officials asked for a meeting with ASO last week to try to settle the issue but no agreement was reached.
