At a Press Conference Dr Digel said, “Daegu is the last stop of our four city journey and from what we have seen, Daegu’s bid is very special.
“When we arrived at the airport and then again later at the stadium, we were amazed by the overwhelming passion and support shown by Daegu’s citizens. The Koreans and especially the people of Daegu have shown their tremendous support of the bid. This is a very strong factor in support of their bid.”
“Our primary criteria in deciding who will host the championships includes the need for a great stadium, the ability to provide quality accommodation and provide all the technical aspects and judges to make a true competition. A bid also needs high quality transportation, medical anti-doping, security, financial, marketing and promotion, TV broadcasting and mass media capabilities. Daegu has absolutely no problems with its stadium and the city is very strong in terms of its technical aspects.”
The IAAF Evaluation Visit included an explanation of the financial assurances that have already been put in place including $4m pledged by the municipal government and a substantial sum from the Korean central government.
