LA 2016 GAMES BIDDERS UNVEIL VENUE PLANS

Organisers of Los Angeles’ bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games have unveiled plans for $112m of improvements to the LA Memorial Coliseum.

The architectural plans, unveiled by the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games, reveal temporary additions to the famous venue such as the installation of luxury suites.

The Coliseum is the only facility to have hosted two Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, two Super Bowls - including the first - a World Series and a host of significant entertainment, political and religious events.

Said Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa: “The Coliseum has been the site of incredible events for more than 80 years, but it never shines brighter than during the Olympic Games. In 2016, the newly designed Coliseum will glow spectacularly.”

Plans include 204 luxury suites, sun shading, guest facilities and a dramatic appearance to the venue. The total cost includes installation of a track around the field and restoration of the building to pre-Games status following the 2016 Olympics.
