G14 HINT AT LEGAL BATTLE TRUCE

European soccer pressure group the G14 has hinted it could be prepared to drop a major legal wrangle with FIFA in the club versus country debate.

Speaking to German magazine Sport-Bild, G14 chief Thomas Kurth said if UEFA and FIFA could reach a compromise, it could be prepared to ditch its complaint it has taken to the European Court of Justice.

The case revolves around Abdelmajid Oulmers, whose Belgian club Charleroi claimed 616,000 euros from FIFA after he sustained an injury which kept him sidelined from club duty for seven months. He picked up the injury while playing for Morocco in November 2004.

A decision had been expected in the summer.

But now Kurth says: “If UEFA president Michel Platini and FIFA president Sepp Blatter proposed an acceptable solution by the end of the season, there is a theoretical possibility that the G14 and Charleroi would withdraw their complaint.”
