NEW WEMBLEY DELAY HITS WARM-UP EVENT

A warm-up event planned to test organisation at the new Wembley Stadium in London has been delayed – but officials insist soccer showpiece the FA Cup Final will still be staged at the venue in May.

Speculation has increased in recent weeks there could be further delays in the opening of the venue – increased after a community day which was expected to attract 60,000 people in the local area was postponed.

It was one of two events designed to test the new stadium’s safety requirements. Originally due to take place on March 3, it has been pushed back two weeks.

Stadium managing director Alex Horne said: “The FA will only confirm the 2007 FA Cup Final will take place at the venue once a safety certificate has been grated. But we remain on track.”
