The paper will focus on three key elements; the role of sport in European society, the economic impact of sport, and the organisational aspects of sport in Europe.
The European Sponsorship Association has already met with Michal Krezja, the EC’s head of sport unit and with the UK Minister for Sport, Richard Caborn MP, to discuss the paper and to provide support material.
Helen Day, ESA vice-chairman said: “The EC has recognised that its European policies have a considerable and growing impact on sport. The public consultation on the EU and sport will take the form of an online questionnaire and we encourage the sponsorship industry to contribute.
“There are a number of topics that ESA recommends the industry endorses. They include questions about whether the EU should take active steps to get more data about the economic impact of sport, should look at alternative ways of trying to support grass roots sport and should support professional qualifications for the sports sector. We believe this should all be affirmed as this will be beneficial to the sponsorship sector as a whole”.
The online consultation can be found at the ‘Your Voice in Europe’ webpage www.ec.europa.eu/yourvoice and then clicking on ‘consultations’. The deadline for responses to be received is April 3.
