UEFA ELECTS NEW TREASURER AND VICE PRESIDENTS

New UEFA president Michel Platini has overseen the election of four new vice-presidents and a new treasurer for European soccer’s governing body.

Following a UEFA Executive Committee meeting in Nyon, Senes Erzik (Turkey), Geoffrey Thompson (England), Angel María Villar Llona (Spain), and Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder (Germany) were all elected vice-presidents.

Cyprus’ Marios N Lefkaritis was elected as treasurer and, in addition, appointed as member of the FIFA Executive Committee.

He fills the European seat vacated by Platini after he won the race to become the new UEFA president. Platini takes up a seat as ex-officio FIFA vice-president in his capacity as president of UEFA.

Switzerland’s Giangiorgio Spiess and Austria’s Friedrich Stickler were appointed as co-opted members of the UEFA Executive Committee until the end of UEFA EURO 2008.
