PGA TOUR’S INTERNATIONAL SET TO BE CANCELLED

The International, held in Denver and known for its unique scoring system, is set to be removed from the PGA Tour schedule because of a lack of corporate sponsorship.

Although no decision has been formally announced, it is reported that the absence of a corporate sponsor was mostly responsible for the cancellation of the 21-year-old tournament.

The PGA Tour has worked with the event organiser for the two weeks in a final effort to find a sponsor, but agreed to end the search now. Tour officials have also been working on a contingency plan over the last month to replace the event and are expected to name a replacement by April.

The leading candidate is thought to be Washington, the largest US market without a PGA Tour event. Other markets reported to be under consideration are Minneapolis, Philadelphia and Kansas City.
