SEVEN BIDDERS FOR TOP FRENCH RUGBY

French rugby union’s Ligue Nationale de Rugby received seven bids for its TV rights.

It received bids from pay-broadcaster Canal+, free-to-air broadcast groups France Televisions and TF1 (owner of the Eurosport channel), from digital channels RMC, L'Equipe TV and Alegria and from mobile operator France-Telecom Orange.

The league is selling the rights for both the top 14 and the second division, Pro D2 leagues, for the 2007-08 to 2010-11 seasons. The tender also included the live free-to-air rights for 2006-07 season final on June 9, 2007. Under French listed events law, the final must be broadcast free-to-air.

The league will award the rights by the end of the month.
