The move by the FAS is backed by the Singapore Sports Council. Oon Jin Teik, CEO, Singapore Sports Council, said, "It will bring a new dimension versus an English Premier League interest, and it is a very different type of football, and it is world class...it is also going to give the English Premier League a run for their money. It is not teams who are coming here, like Manchester United and Chelsea, but it is a league, a whole Brazilian league that is coming down here using Singapore as a base and expanding to the rest of Asia Pacific."
Details of the MOU are still being worked out but one of the biggest Brazilian clubs is expected to take part in an exhibition match in Singapore and clinics, player and coach exchanges are on the cards.
In the long run the aim is to see more Brazilian football on TV, as broadcasting rights and marketing opportunities are also being explored.
