McBeth won the race to be a vice-president of world soccer’s governing body – beating off the challenge of English FA chairman Geoff Thompson, Irish FA chief Jim Boyce and the Welsh FA’s Peter Rees.
Thompson had been viewed by many as the favourite to replace Will who steps down in May after 17 years in the position.
McBeth said: “It is an important role in world football and I will be looking very closely at how I can best use it to look after the interests of the home associations.”
