PHILIP MORRIS MAY CONSIDER ALTERNATIVE F1 STRATEGY

Philip Morris, the owner of the Marlboro cigarette brand will apparently consider shifting its sponsorship of the Ferrari F1 team to another of its brands should it run into problems with its subliminal Marlboro branding.

With tobacco sponsorships now outlawed in F1, a lot of teams have found alternative sponsors to fund their teams. But Philip Morris recently extended its contract with Ferrari until 2011, insisting its colouring of the car without logos is acceptable.

But according to reports, in case its subliminal branding on the Ferrari car is deemed illegal, Philip Morris has lined up sponsorship of some of its other non-tobacco companies. Philip Morris owned brands include Maxwell House coffee, Oreo cookies and food brand Kraft. Philip Morris will also sub-contract out much of the remaining space on the Ferrari to other companies such as Shell and Alice.
