Delegates to next week’s International Sports Security Summit in London will receive a privileged, insiders guide to event security and safety issues at one of the world’s biggest football clubs.

Since its capacity was increased to 76,000, Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium has become the busiest sports venue in the UK and – because of the number of events staged – one of the busiest in the world.

In addition to Manchester United games, the stadium has recently become a home on the road for the England team as well as holding FA Cup semi-finals and major Rugby League finals and internationals.

Mike Halligan of Controlled Event Solutions (CES) heads the event security operation at Old Trafford where an army of 400 staff is employed to identify and combat a range of actual and potential safety and security threats on each match day.

At the International Sports Security Summit, at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre on January 24-25, he will examine the issues and challenges faced by his team and the strategic, managerial and operational solutions deployed in the high pressure environment of match day at the home of one of the biggest names in sport.
