Fans will now be able view their club’s league matches live and “on demand” at
www.sportdigital.tv. The new initiative by the two leagues, in partnership with the sports agency Sportfive, will ensure a greater media presence for the two sports.
“sportdigital.tv shows what fans want to see but weren’t able to in the past. That’s a benefit for the entire sport,” commented Frank Bohmann, Managing Director of the HBL. Until now, public broadcasters and DSF concentrated on select matches in their telecasts of handball games.”
“I would like to emphasise that sportdigital.tv serves as a complement to existing partnerships with SportA (ARD/ZDFChannels) and DSF, who will naturally continue to broadcast our sport as usual,” Bohmann added.
Starting with the second half of the Handball Bundesliga season, up to 200 matches per season will be broadcast on sportdigital.tv, initially on the Internet only. Digital TV broadcasts via satellite and cable are planned beginning in the summer of 2007.
“sportdigital.tv means that all clubs will be seen live much more often, which will benefit fans and clubs alike,” remarked Jan Pommer, Managing Director of the BBL. Basketball fans can look forward to more than 100 encounters starting with the upcoming season. “The concept places an emphasis on significantly increasing the production of live footage,” Pommer went on to explain.
