The Portuguese government is set to launch a tender this year for terrestrial digital TV, aiming to start broadcasts in 2008.
August Santos Silva, minister for parliamentary matters, said that launching the tender this year will allow Portugal to comply with the European Union objective of stopping analogue TV broadcasts by 2012.
Before launching the tender, the government is expected to approve a new law by spring which will regulate digital TV and also allow regional channels.
