BASEBALL SALARIES ON THE UP

Average salaries for players in Major League Baseball rose on average nine percent this year, according to the latest figures released this week.

The MLB Players’ Association says the average wage now stands at $2,699,292. The percentage rise for the year is the highest for five years.

Said Bob DuPuy, MLB’s chief operating officer: “The increase in the average salary is a reflection of the growth in overall industry revenues, and that while the sport still has significant economic challenges, the increased average is a reflection of the level of the talent on the field.”
