US media group Disney is to acquire the North American Sports Network in a bid to expand the reach of its ESPN channels.
A pan-European broadcaster, NASN holds the rights in many European sports leagues including the National Football League, Major League Baseball and National Hockey League. It has distribution deals in the UK, Germany and Russia.
Disney wants to broadcast American sports in Europe and expand the reach of ESPN. It will acquire the channel from its owners, private-equity company Benchmark Capital Europe and Setanta Sports Holdings Ltd.
