Irish-based broadcaster Setanta acquired the rights for 46 Premier League matches in a three-year deal from 2007-08 to 2009-10.
BT’s tie-up with Setanta will enable it to offer Setanta's new UK sports channel, Setanta Sports, from next summer. The deal means it will also show Scottish Premier League and Nationwide Conference games, as well as European matches and other sports such as golf.
BT has already secured the rights to broadcast near-live Premier League matches in a joint-deal with pay-operator BSkyB. BT officially launches its new BT Vision television service today, a move that will turn the telecoms company into a multimedia company.
