NFL TO OFFER FIRST LIVE WEBCASTS

The NFL is set to provide live web broadcasts of its own NFL Network's Thursday and Saturday matches to Verizon's Fios and DirecTV television and Internet subscribers.

It will be the first time live NFL games will be broadcast live over the internet in the US. The NFL has a deal with Yahoo this season to provide live internet coverage of Sunday NFL games outside the US.

The US coverage is likely to be available to around 500,000 homes via Verizon broadband. The first match covered online could be as soon as December 7, when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Cleveland Browns.

The broadcast will also include alternate camera angles, additional sound and in-game statistics that aren't available on the TV channel.
