Following a thorough sales process that demonstrated fierce competition on the Portuguese market, commercial broadcaster TVI has been granted the exclusive free-to-air broadcast rights for 20 matches. The remaining eleven matches will be broadcast exclusively live by SPORT TV, which was awarded the pay television rights for all 31 matches of the tournament.
The broadcast rights to the UEFA European Championship are being sold on a market-by-market basis for the first time in the 46-year history of the tournament. The Sportfive agency is UEFA's exclusive sales agent for the exploitation of European broadcast rights relating to UEFA EURO 2008™.
