DAEGU SUBMITS 2011 WORLD ATHLETICS BID

South Korean city Daegu officially submitted its Bid File to the IAAF in marking the start of campaigning to host the 13th World Athletics Championships in 2011.

The bid file outlines Daegu’s plans to provide a legacy for Asian athletics through a successful bid and to make the Championships the cleanest, most environmentally friendly and most athlete-friendly competition ever.

The mayor of Daegu city Kim Bum-il said, “The bid enjoys strong support from the central government and over 92 per cent of all Daegu citizens have expressed their overwhelming support for bid.”

The centrepiece of the Championships would be the World Cup Stadium on the outskirts of the city, which was used to host four matches during the FIFA World Cup in 2002.
