TELECOMS OPERATOR JOINS UK TV BATTLE

UK telecoms company BT is set to launch its BT Vision combined television and internet service.

The service will allow the company's broadband customers to watch existing digital terrestrial Freeview channels and will also offer "on-demand" content - including films, music, TV shows and football - which customers can download over a phone line and watch on their televisions.

The additional pay-TV content, such as football will be available via both subscription and on a one-off basis. In May, BT acquired rights to broadcast English Premier League matches in a joint-deal with BSkyB.
