AUSTRALIAN CRICKET ROW OVER SPONSORSHIP

The Australian Cricket Board’s new deal with the Commonwealth Bank to sponsor limited-overs internationals has caused a row with top players reported to be considering legal action.

The Australian Cricketers' Association is understood to be unhappy with restrictions placed on players by Cricket Australia under the sponsorship agreement with the Commonwealth Bank.

It is said to be considering legal action if a compromise can't be reached with Cricket Australia. It claims players are being unfairly treated and that potential individual sponsorship agreements with other financial institutions cannot be entered into because of the Commonwealth Bank deal.

Cricket Australia said it was working through the process with the ACA and hopes to have the matter resolved shortly.
