The move means the sports network will be allowed to distribute two national feeds simultaneously and will give TSN much more flexibility in its scheduling, as it will be allowed to use some 10 per cent of its total quarterly broadcasting schedule for the second feed, or about 2.4 hours of programming a day.
The new channel is likely to be used by TSN and CTV, both owned by Bell Globemedia, in bidding for National Hockey League rights from the 2008-09 season. It would allow them to broadcast two simultaneous play-off games at the same time.
